FedEx, the world’s leading provider of international expressshipping services, has relocated its Kansas City operation to anewly constructed, state-of-the-art building that’s more thandouble the size of the previous location. The $5M investment in theFedEx Express service center increases shipment capacity andenables faster shipment processing, resulting in earlier deliveriesfor local customers.

　　The new facility at 10550 N.W. Transcon Drive, Kansas City,Missouri, is strategically located near the Kansas CityInternational Airport, within the KCI Intermodal Business Center.The expansion adds 43,700 square feet of warehousing and officespace, and improves the operation with newly upgraded materialhandling equipment, along with an extended 46 positions for couriervehicles to load freight around its conveyor system.

　　“FedEx’s expansion in Kansas City is a direct reflection ofour customers’ international shipment growth, as the Covid-19pandemic has further driven digital transformation andsignificantly accelerated B2C and B2B E commerce,” said NemerAbohasen, General Manager for the Midwest U.S. at FedEx Express.“This larger facility will allow us to not only improveefficiencies, but speed delivery services and enhance the safeworking environment for our employees.”

　　The larger FedEx warehouse can process up to 3,550 pieces perhour, through the use of a cutting-edge conveyor sorting systemthat features dual-view X-ray package screening for safety andsecurity, as well as image-capture technology and automatedbar-code sorting functionality. Handling U.S. domestic as well astime-definite international shipments to and from the 220 countriesand territories served by FedEx, the facility is expected toaccommodate the shipment growth projected over the next ten years,as reflected in its long-term lease through 2031.
